Beauty Dish and Grid

A beauty dish is utilised when the photographer is looking for a specific type of light from their studio flash. Beauty dishes characteristically offer a “hard” light, with soft fringing which provides a nice high contrast look, ideal for highlighting the detail in make up and hair. Beauty dishes, when compared to soft boxes really allow colours to “pop” because the light is more direct, without causing the harsh shadows that can happen when using reflectors or umbrellas. The large, round shape of a beauty dish also ensures lovely round catch lights in your subject’s eyes.
